Royal’s rehabilitation program is a critical piece of our clinical care strategy. Our goal is to accelerate healing and improve quality of life to the fullest extent possible. Our physical and occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists incorporate the latest medical technology and methodology to enhance our patients’ recovery in the areas of wound healing, continence management, pain management, dysphasia, contracture management, and fall prevention.
Occupational Therapy: OT focuses on activities and training that promote independence and managing day to day living tasks (“ADLs”) such as bathing, grooming, dressing and eating skills. Occupational therapists can also work with patients and patients’ families to help them return to their hobbies and special interests.
Physical Therapy: PT includes strengthening and retraining that will allow patients to become more independent with transfer techniques, walking, prosthetics, and mobility within the center, home and community. Physical therapy aims to limit a patient’s risk of a fall, and increase safety upon discharge.
Speech Therapy: Speech therapy evaluates a resident’s understanding and use of language, speech production, voice and swallowing ability.
Dementia/Cognitive Management and Rehabilitation: If a loved one with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or a related dementia is in need of short-term rehabilitation, our centers with the Royal Innovation: Alzheimer’s Care program are designed to meet the specific rehabilitation needs of this population as well. All of our state-of-the-art technology is available to residents/patients with dementia while they live in a secure memory care area, creating a more comfortable environment for the resident, and providing peace of mind for family members.
We utilize the latest rehab technology for maximum improvement, including the Myomo cuff, Omnicycle, electrical stimulation, diathermy, VitalStim and ultrasound. Our rehab areas include working kitchens for ADL’s, transfers and mobility. We work closely with home care agencies for continuity of care and a safe transition home.
MYOMO CUFF
- Cutting edge technology engaging a patient’s own motion in recovery process, helping patients affected by strokes, spinal cord and brain injuries, and other neurological conditions
- Stimulates nerves in the arms where some movement is present, encouraging further mobility
- Beneficial for strokes occurring as many as 20 years ago, bringing new hope and opportunities to patients coping with long-term disabilities
OMNICYCLE – Neuro/Ortho/Cardio Rehab Cycle System
- Developed for all ages including the geriatric population
- Upper and lower extremity exercise options
- Three modes for varying physical limitations
- Active and passive options
- Provides earlier therapy interventions supporting faster strength gains and recovery of function
ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (including TENS, interferential, Russian stimulation)
- Reduces pain, muscle spasm, edema
- Increases ROM, circulation
- Functional neuro and muscle re-education through enhanced neural drive
- Correction of motor memory, improving strength, coordination and function
DIATHERMY
- Reduces pain – sub acute and chronic
- Decreases muscle tone and spasm
- Improves circulation
VITALSTIM
- Neuromuscular electrical stimulation designed to treat dysphasia
- Re-educates throat muscles for swallowing and to prevent aspiration
ULTRASOUND
- Reduces pain
- Increases local circulation
- Able to treat over edematous tissue
- Increases cell membrane permeability
- Increases ROM through collagen remodeling
